The treat became available on Aug. 28 as part of the “Fall Blizzard Treat Menu.” “The creamy texture of the soft serve has a quite strong peanut butter flavoring, but the flecks of well-sized REESE’s peanut butter cups balance it out and adds the right amount of chocolate,” Sports Staffer Liya Taylor wrote. On Aug. 28, Dairy Queen re-released the “Fall Blizzard Treat Menu” with the addition of one new flavor.
Dairy Queen’s, known for its Blizzards, has officially brought back their “Fall Blizzard Treat Menu,” for the season with one new addition: the Royal REESE’s Fluffernutter. The Blizzard is available in all standard sizes ranging in price from $4.39 to $7.19. It is delightful and packed with flavor, but lacks in some areas.
At first glance, the Royal REESE’s Fluffernutter looks unexciting and quite bland, appearing to simply be vanilla soft serve mixed with chocolate flecks. However, after the first bite, this assumption is immediately discarded.
The creamy soft serve has a strong peanut butter flavor, but the well-sized flecks of REESE’s peanut butter cups balance it out and add just the right amount of chocolate. This gives the soft serve a mouthwatering sweet and salty effect, leaving customers craving more.
The announcement video Dairy Queen produced for its annual “Fall Blizzard Treat Menu” is shown above. The menu dropped on Aug. 28 and introduced the new Royal REESE’s Fluffernutter. “In addition to the lacking marshmallow, the Blizzard also feels out of place on the ‘Fall Blizzard Menu,’” Sports Staffer Liya Taylor wrote. “The treat feels seasonally insignificant without any signature fall flavors like pumpkin or maple.” Video fair use of Dairy Queen
While the soft serve is very well-executed, the marshmallow center is disappointing. The marshmallow fluff is difficult to find, and once located, it’s absurdly sweet. When the marshmallow fluff and the soft serve mix together, the delicious soft serve is overpowered and becomes unfavorable.
While the marshmallow alone misses the mark, the texture of the two together is surprisingly enjoyable. The creamy soft serve and gelatinous marshmallow center works well, combining smoothly without a spongy or sticky mouthfeel.
While the marshmallow alone misses the mark, the texture of the two together is surprisingly enjoyable. The creamy soft serve and gelatinous marshmallow center works well, combining smoothly without a spongy or sticky mouthfeel.
In addition to the lacking marshmallow, the Blizzard also feels out of place on the Fall Blizzard Menu. The treat feels seasonally insignificant without any signature fall flavors like pumpkin or maple. So while this treat was delicious, its marketing is misplaced.
Overall, Dairy Queen’s Royal REESE’s Fluffernutter Blizzard is a delicious treat option for those who love the classic peanut butter and chocolate combination. With its delightful soft serve, pleasant texture and low price for the size, this treat is worth it.
