University of Georgia’s Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter chair Aspen David, a UGA sophomore, speaks at a protest against the Turning Point U.S.A campus tour at Akins Ford Arena at the Classic Center featuring United States Vice President JD Vance on April 14. The protest hosted several guest speakers, which included Second Chair of the Oconee County Democrats Society Ray Smith, who is running for Georgia Senate in District 46. “The current administration has gone too far. They’ve done it over and over and over again. (So,) it’s so important that we show up and we make our voices heard, that’s what the First Amendment is all about,” Smith said. “I don’t agree with the hate that TPUSA is spewing. I don’t agree with the chaos and the (budget) cuts that this current administration is doing. I felt called to come out and say my piece and make sure that people know that there are good candidates that are trying to run for them to represent them well and get this country back on track.” Photos by Peter Atchley
