With a predictable plot and average acting, “Never Have I Ever: Season 3,” released on Aug. 12, is the perfect show for mindless binging.
Released to Netflix on Aug. 12, “Never Have I Ever,” directed by Andy Samberg and Adam Shapiro, is back for a third season. Following the life of Indian-American high school junior Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), this season is the typical teenage comedy viewers will enjoy.
After losing her father unexpectedly at the beginning of the first season, “Never Have I Ever” follows Devi and her journey to acceptance as well as her climb to popularity in her school. Each episode is a rollercoaster of drama through her life of crushes, friendships and self-discovery, with a hint of comedy tied in.
Season 3 of the show picks up with Devi and her crush from previous seasons, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet), officially becoming a couple. As the season progresses, the audience gets to watch Devi navigate her new relationship, as well as the heartbreaks and complications that come with it.
“Never Have I Ever: Season 3” is perfect for viewers who are looking for a light-hearted viewing experience. The repetitive drama of the season may offer a sense of comfort to viewers who aren’t looking for anything too serious or dark.
These predictable plotlines, although enjoyable at times, quickly become repetitive. The plot of the show is no different than the stereotypical teenage girl who is obsessed with her love life.
The lack of depth can be boring, and some may wish for a more meaningful performance instead of plotlines only centered around unrealistic teenage drama. As a result, those watching may be left wanting more.
With 10 episodes, each about 30 minutes long, this new season is perfect for mindless binging. From comedy to drama, this season has all the elements to satisfy. However, viewers who are looking for a show with more emotional depth and a less predictable storyline should beware of “Never Have I Ever: Season 3.”
