The exclusive Netflix series released on Feb. 11 “Inventing Anna” has a constantly moving, but sometimes confusing plot that will leave viewers intrigued with the mystery of Anna Delvey.
The limited series “Inventing Anna” was released exclusively to Netflix on Feb. 11. The captivating show follows determined journalist Vivian Kent (Anna Chlumsky) as she tries to uncover the backstory behind the German heiress Anna “Delvey” Sorokin (Julia Garner).
The nine-episode long show directed by Shonda Rhimes is a fictionalized story based on journalist Jessica Pressler’s investigation of the real-life Anna Delvey.
The show is not what viewers would expect from a typical Netflix series. Most of it focuses on the past experiences of people who were or are close to Delvey, told as though viewers were experiencing the event with the characters. This creates a unique viewing experience, where the viewers can be fully immersed in the storyline.
As Kent navigates the winding path of events that led up to the arrest of the wire fraud con woman, viewers are engaged in a constantly progressing plot filled with mystery and cliffhangers.

While the show’s over an hour-long episodes mainly focus on Delvey, it does successfully incorporate the character development of other people such as Kent, Delvey’s lawyer Todd Spodek (Arian Moayed) and Delvey’s friend Rachel DeLoache Williams (Katie Lowes).
The diverse plot can make the series hard to follow at times, leaving the viewer confused about whose experience they are watching and what it has to do with Delvey. However, the actors do an exceptional job at navigating the sometimes confusing story with their realistic and accurate acting skills, making them seem like they were truly affected by Delvey’s story.
The phrase that appears in every episode, “This whole story is completely true, except for all the parts that are totally made up,” can make it hard for the audience to understand what Delvey’s real story is.
Overall, as the story progresses, emotions change and the truth is uncovered, leaving characters and viewers questioning if they antagonize or empathize with Anna Delvey.
