With a 4-0 record in Georgia High School Association Region 8-AAAAAA, the Gladiators have put themselves on track to hold onto the first seed for the region tournament. “Overall, (the season has gone) really well,” Miller said. “Everything’s been kind of a breeze so far. I’ve been going to every match (and) having fun and just hitting the ball.” Photo by Kye Streetman

In their last home match of the 2025-26 regular season, the Clarke Central High School boys varsity tennis team will play against Jackson County High School at 4 p.m. on March 23 at Bishop Park.
Largely composed of returning seniors, the team has an overall record of 7-1 and is undefeated in Georgia High School Association Region 8-AAAAA with a region record of 4-0.
“(The season is) going pretty well. (We have) a very deep team,” CCHS boys varsity tennis player Cash Meyer, a junior, said. “The team is very similar to last season, but everyone’s had a year to get better, (so) every line is better than it was last year. Every match is more competitive.”
The JCHS Panthers are 3-1 in GHSA Region 8-AAAAA, having lost 0-5 to Loganville High School, which CCHS beat 5-0 on March 3. Because of this and the team’s success over the season, Meyer isn’t expecting a challenge in playing JCHS.
“Going into the season, we didn’t really anticipate having much challenge in our own region, so I don’t think (playing JCHS will) be an incredibly rough match,” Meyer said.
“We’re in control of hanging on to the (GHSA Region 8-AAAAA) first seed at this point, but winning (against JCHS) would all but clinch a state playoff spot.”

With a week remaining until the beginning of the 2026 GHSA Region 8-AAAAAA tennis tournament, which begins on March 30, a win against JCHS would put the Gladiators at 5-0 and first in the region.
“We’re in control of hanging on to the (GHSA Region 8-AAAAA) first seed at this point, but winning (against JCHS) would all but clinch a state playoff spot,” CCHS boys varsity tennis head coach Elliot Slane said. “It would guarantee a top three (region) spot, (which) would mean that things are looking really good for playoffs.”
The 2025-26 GHSA AAAAA Boys State Tennis Championship begins on April 17, and Slane hopes that the Gladiators will continue their winning streak through their game against JCHS and region playoffs.
“(The goal is) to get to a point this season where we’re going to start seeing players and teams who are better than us and still being able to grind it out,” Slane said. “Hopefully, we’re in a position where we’re going to be playing some very good competition (in) the playoffs.”
