A series of graphics shows five facts about Veterans Day in honor of its celebration on Nov. 11. The holiday was founded to celebrate those who fought in the First World War, but was expanded in 1954 to include anyone who has served in the United States Armed Forces. “While the war unofficially ended on Nov. 11, 1918, citizens were left solemn after the death of many soldiers, leading to the recognition of Armistice Day by former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in 1919,” Viewpoints Editor Isabella Gresham wrote. “After being officially rededicated as Veterans Day in 1954 by former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, it is now always observed on Nov. 11.” Graphics by Isabella Gresham
