A graphic shows the five most commonly challenged books of the 2024-25 school year, according to PEN America, an organization dedicated to protecting the freedom of written expression in the United States. The top challenged book was “A Clockwork Orange” by Anthony Burgess, with a total of 23 bans during the year. “This is a dystopian novel about a teenage gang leader, Alex, who is forced through aversion therapy as a way to rid him of aggressive behaviors,” Digital Editor-in-Chief Lea D’Angelo wrote. “This book has been challenged due to its graphic depictions of topics such as brutality and violence.” Graphic by Lea D’Angelo
