“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” will stun viewers with amazing special effects and impressive storytelling but several jokes did not deliver.
“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” was a fantastic addition to the Ghostbusters franchise, after being released to theaters on March 22. Directed and produced by Gil Kenan, the two-hour film brings heaps of nostalgia and a star-studded cast to the big screen for viewers.
The legendary Ghostbusters franchise started with the smash hit “Ghostbusters” in 1984, followed by the sequel letdown “Ghostbusters II” in 1989. Then in 2016, the refreshing “Ghostbusters” came out with a brand new all-female cast, followed by the tonal shift “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” again with a brand new cast.
Most recently, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” follows Phoebe Spengler (McKenna Grace), Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard), Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon) and Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) as they attempt to keep New York City ghost-free.
Both Grace and Rudd’s performances were fantastic – they put so much intention behind every line and their physical performance of fighting the ghosts was superb. The evil specters were very well-animated and enhanced by creepy sounds and voices.

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” jam-packs its runtime with effective nostalgic lines like “Bustin’ makes me feel good.” This movie delivers new content to the franchise while harkening back to dialogue from previous films and other iconic Ghostbusters lore.
Viewers will enjoy an excellent balance of both new and old with the return of three Ghostbusters from the original two films, Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd). Even with the cacophony of characters, the story supported them well and made sure the main characters still got the screen time they needed.
However, some of the comedy from Nadeem Razmaadi’s (Kumail Ali Nanjiani) performance seemed lopsided when played alongside the serious portrayals of most of the main cast.
Overall, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is a great watch for both new fans and old fans looking for a nostalgic return and a fantastic family flick for older kids of the Ghostbusters franchise.
