The Clarke Central High School JV girls soccer team took on Flowery Branch High School at Billy Henderson Stadium on Sat., March 21. The Lady Glads tied Flowery Branch with a score of 0-0.
The Clarke Central High School JV girls soccer team competed against the Flowery Branch High School team on Sat., March 21. The game had an 11 a.m. start, spectators were hopeful at the start of the match.
“I think they should win today because they’ve been doing good so far. They had a rough start at the beginning of the season but they caught up,” freshman and JV soccer player Muhammad Delane said.
Junior and varsity soccer player Christina Minor also thinks that the Lady Glads have shown improved since the start of the season.
“I heard that they have a good record and that they have gotten better since the beginning of the year,” Minor said.
Starting goalkeeper for the Clarke Central High School girls varsity soccer team player Hannah Welch thinks that the game should be evenly matched.
“The girls are doing better and I think it should be a pretty even game because we played the Flowery Branch JV in a 7v7 tournament (over the summer) and we ended up beating them so I guess we’ll have to see. It should be a pretty good game,” Welch said.
At the end of the first half, the game was tied 0-0. Freshman midfielder Salma Garcia thinks that the Lady Glads did a good job of being aggressive while defending the ball.
“I think we came out pretty strong but we could’ve done better by pressuring. I think we did really good and we were really aggressive and we made sure that they weren’t scoring on us or passing through us,” Garcia said.
The score stayed the same in the second half, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw. Although the Lady Glads weren’t able to score, they still felt like they did a good job on the field.
“It feels like we (worked together as a team). We did a lot of good passes and we communicated a lot,” Garcia said.
The game adds to their record leaving them with one win, two draws and three losses. The Gladiators are now preparing for their next game against Gainesville on March 26.
