Spirit week returned to Clarke Central High School with a few changes.
After the buzz of homecoming court ended, students at Clarke Central High School were left excited for spirit week.
“I was not here last year, but I loved doing it this year,” CCHS sophomore William Martaz Imes said.
Middle schools do not participate in spirit week, so freshmen share this new tradition for the first time at CCHS.
“People have a lot of spirit at Clarke Central,” freshman Fredrickaa Sheats said, “I didn’t feel that a lot of people were going to participate in (spirit week) so I just did not (do it.) I will do it next year, now that I found a lot of people (do participate in it).”
On Monday, students were out of school due to a professional learning day causing spirit week to be cut short. Spirit week started with pajama day where students wore comfortable clothing.
“The reason why I love pajama day so much is because no one can really try and look cute in pajamas. It is not happening,” senior Kayla Chambers said, “You do not have the designer clothes and the rocking shoes. That’s why I like it.”
Wednesday was the infamous Tacky Day that showed a whole new side of students. It created a buzz in the hallways with the many unique outfits.
“I love tacky day. Personally, I’m glad I don’t have to worry about what I wear,” junior Devin Middleton said, “Plus seeing how everyone else is dressed makes for a pretty hilarious and interesting day. People I would never expect to (participate in) it are the ones that end up doing the most. ”
This year, CCHS added Nerd Day. However, this took the place of one of the days that was previously there–Twin Day and College Day did not take place this year.
“I did not like spirit week this year because they did not have Twin Day,” sophomore Todric Allen said, “I did it last year, but this year they did not have it, so I did not do it (the whole week).”
Of course, no one could forget that Friday was Red and Gold Spirit Day. CCHS students showed off their school spirit by sporting their school colors along with school apparel.
“I think Spirit Day is a great way for all the students (at) Clarke Central to show school spirit.” junior and varsity football manager Viviana Lopez said, “It will get the football players really excited to play the homecoming game.”
