At the beginning of the new school year, several new teachers joined the CCHS staff.
Coming to Clarke Central High School has been a transition for not only freshmen and new students, but also for eight new staff members.
“I am so excited to be here (at CCHS).” Breda said, “ There’s so many students here and I am so excited to start.”
CCHS Special Education teacher Lara Breda has been in the healthcare field for 15 to 20 years before coming to CCHS. Breda substituted at North Oconee High School before becoming a SPED(special education) teacher.
“I think here (CCHS) has better open relationship with teachers. Especially from back when I was in school. Everything has improved. Things are getting better and easier for many of my students and i feel there is not much disrupt between the students,” Breda said.
CCHS Spanish teacher, Aaron Gibbs, is a new teacher who has transitioned from the small county of Tifton, GA to CCHS. Gibbs was part of the migrant education program in Tift County High School.
“That (Tift County High School) was actually my high school that I grew up in. My job with the Migrant Education Program was working with students whose parents are Migrant farm workers so it was a really really cool experience and a lot of students were hispanics.” Gibbs said.
Gibbs also taught english courses in Costa Rica, as well as teaching Spanish in Chicago. Gibbs joined later than most CCHS teachers in late Aug.
“Teachers and students have been very welcoming at Central. I feel that this year is going to be exciting,” Gibbs said, “(When I started) classes had already begun. Many students already (had) a routine of doing things. So that was something(I had) to overcome.“
Gibbs was a spanish major in college and he feels that learning another language should be conversational. Students should be able to speak a language comfortably.
“I feel that not enough students value learning spanish. Its not just another language but your learning another culture and another history.“
Students of CCHS look at new teachers as beneficial
“They’ve (the new teachers) change up the way things are at Central and make things different,” said CCHS junior Lakiera Bailey.
