Clarke Central High School varsity football defensive back Braylen Harper, a junior, catches an interception during the Gladiator’s game against Jackson County High School on Oct. 30 in Billy Henderson Stadium. CCHS was on track to be Region 8-AAAAAA champions but ultimately lost 14-33, which ended their five-game winning streak. “Obviously, it’s a little disappointing, we wanted to come in here and win a region championship. I thought we played a great first half, maybe we just ran out of gas a little bit,” CCHS varsity football running backs coach Jack Mangel said. “The kids fought hard, we just didn’t play a good second half. And that was a really good football team. They got the best of us, but we still got a lot of football left, and we’re heading in the right direction.” Photos and story by Grady Dunston
