A vendor plates food during Clarke Central High School’s annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Oct. 12 in the CCHS bus loop. The event featured food vendors, music and crafts representing different Latin American cultures and gave students and community members an opportunity to celebrate Hispanic heritage. “It’s important to hold this festival because I want all the Latinos and Hispanics in the community to know that they’re seen, and for everyone, even if you’re not Hispanic, to come and enjoy our food, our culture, and just see what it’s all about.” CCHS junior, Miley Tenas-Balderas, who attended the festival, said. “I love to see all the different cultures because I’m only Mexican Guatemalan. I don’t eat El Salvadorian food, I don’t eat Venezuelan food, I don’t eat Peruvian food. I’m glad I got the chance to see all these cultures being represented.” Photos and story by Maypop Wren
