Clarke County School District Executive Director of Human Resources Dan Swartz will be the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. CCSD Executive Director of Human Resources Dan Swartz will temporarily take over the position from longtime educator Selena Blankenship, who will retire effective Nov. 22.
After an 18-year career working in the Clarke County School District, CCSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Dr. Selena Blankenship will step down from her position on Nov. 22.
Blankenship, who came to the CCSD as a Clarke Central High School English department teacher in 2002, has occupied several positions in the district, including a five-year stint as principal of Hilsman Middle School. Before assuming the role of assistant superintendent in CCSD in 2021, Blankenship was the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Student Support Services for the Jackson County School System.

English department teacher Ian Altman worked with Blankenship during her time at CCHS, recalling her as a positive member of the school community.
“When I worked with her in the building here, she was a good listener, and she wanted to solve problems and she was always pretty supportive to me,” Altman said.
Blankenship’s retirement concludes her 30 years of service to public education around the state of Georgia.
“It has been my greatest privilege to serve the CCSD community for 18 years, working alongside incredible colleagues, leaders, and students who inspire growth and excellence every day,” Blankenship stated in a Nov. 15 CCSD press release.
“I am confident that Mr. Swartz will continue to move us forward in the right direction as we work to fill this important vacancy in the coming month,”

In Blankenship’s stead, CCSD Executive Director of Human Resources Dan Swartz will occupy the position on an interim basis.
Swartz has extensive administrative experience himself, though not in Georgia. He worked as the Human Capital Strategies Specialist for North Carolina’s Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools from 2008 to 2015 before managing a consulting firm from 2015 to 2022. Swartz has worked in the CCSD HR Division since January 2022.
