Clarke Central High School will be hosting Prom on April 27 at 1055 Barber St. from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The Clarke Central High School Prom, which will be held on April 27 at 1055 Barber St. from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m, has the theme of “The Great Gatsby.”
Counseling Secretary Kelly Savage was appointed as Prom Co-Chair for the 2023-24 school year. Her duties include planning the event, which she says has been a stressful but rewarding experience.
“If you don’t take care of every little piece, it can be a big mess, ” Savage said. “(I like planning Prom because) it’s fun. I like seeing (students) having a good time when they’re hanging out with their friends (and) I want to be part of that process to make their high school memorable.”
Senior De’taize Moses hopes Prom will be an unforgettable evening for those in attendance.
“I expect Prom to be a great experience, but only if you make it a good experience because I think it’s what you make it,” Moses said. “Something I’m looking forward to for this year’s Prom is to see who wins Royalty. I’m hoping everyone goes with the theme and (has) awesome outfits.”
Savage says that in addition to meticulous planning and attention to detail, it takes a village to ensure that every aspect of the event runs smoothly.
“(Prom) Co-Chair is Ms. Latoya Jewell. She handles a lot of the bigger stuff (like booking) the venue, DJ, (and) the photographer. She did the big parts, which is super helpful for me,” Savage said. “I’m handling all the stuff set around the students. I’m handling the guest tickets, guest forms, the wristbands, song request forms, (and where the CCHS staff is) going to work and what positions they’ll take during Prom.”
According to Moses, Prom serves as a respite from school for high school students to create cherished memories.
“Prom is a time where people can get together towards the end of (the) semester and get a break while being able to have a good time and hang out with their friends,” Moses said. “(Prom) encourages unity and community in the school, it’s a time where everyone can just get together and have fun without stressing.”
