CCHS will host a college application workshop for Athens Technical College on Feb. 6 from 12 to 2 p.m in Room 242.
Clarke Central High School will hold the Athens Technical College Application Workshop in Room 242 on Feb. 6 from 12 to 2 p.m.
CCHS College Advisor Gabriel Smallwood organized the event in conjunction with ATC, which saw an increase in enrollment of 8.2% in the fall of 2023. The event will have ATC representatives present to help students fill out applications and answer questions.
“We’ll be in the (Public Relations) room. So if people grab a seat, they’ll be able to go log into their computer, and of course login to the application and start the application process,” Smallwood said. “The goal of the program is to make sure they’ll submit the college application and to ask as many questions as they need to about the application.”
CCHS senior James Johnson sees the event as being a positive experience for the CCHS community.
“(The event) could benefit the student body by allowing them to get in contact with instructors and letting them know how you would do a normal application to a college,” Johnson said. “I feel like it’ll help students that don’t got a lot of money. They need that chance to be somewhere local.”

Smallwood hopes the event will inspire more students to pursue a higher education.
“(Students) might keep forgetting to do (applications) and then don’t want to do it last minute. Students that want to apply, can go ahead and use this time to apply and they can use the time to get help from people who have worked on hundreds of applications before they can get that one on one support,” Smallwood said. “Overall there’ll be huge benefits because we’ll give our students the opportunity to go on that next step in that journey.”
