Honoring students

Attendees at the 2022 Honors Night, which was split by ninth/10th grades and 11th/12th grades, received this program on April 28. The event was held to recognize students who have excelled academically through the year or received scholarships. “It was the most well-attended Honors Night, both the ninth/10th and the 11th/12th that I have seen in many years. We already have ideas for next year to make it more comfortable for attendees,” National Honor Society co-sponsor and foreign language department chair Emily Hulse said. The CCHS chapter of the National Honor Society hosted Honors Night on April 28 in order to recognize student achievements across all grade levels.

The Clarke Central High School chapter of the National Honor Society held Honors Night on April 28 to acknowledge students who have excelled throughout the year, gone above and beyond the class or leader expectations or have earned a scholarship.

Ninth and 10th grade students attended Honors Night at 6 p.m., while the upperclassmen attended their ceremony at 7 p.m. NHS hosted Honors Night due to the organization’s commitment to scholarship, service, leadership and character, as stated by the NHS website.

“(There are) end-of-the-year recognition awards. There’s the Honor Roll. We have the All-A Honor Roll and we have the A-average Honor Roll,” NHS co-sponsor and foreign language department chair Emily Hulse said. “We also have the (teacher-distributed awards, which) some of the freshmen might (also have received).”

Junior Chloe Blum received an award for being on the All-A Honor Roll and she appreciates that her work has been acknowledged.

“My reaction to winning an award was very surprising and good. I did not expect to win one but I was very glad and felt appreciated to learn that I did,” Blum said.

Family Engagement Specialist Christan Barner was pleased to see a high number of people attending the event and enjoyed the positive experience.

“We had an incredible turnout and were very excited to see so many family members show support for their students and Clarke Central,” Barner said. “I really enjoyed seeing parents taking pictures with their smiling kids holding up their awards. It was awesome to see so much Gladiator pride displayed.”
