New CCHS Assistant Principal Dr. Angelia Major joined the CCHS administrative team on Oct. 25.
Dr. Angelia Major was hired to Clarke Central High School’s administration as the Assistant Principal for the Freshman Academy. The position has been vacant since July 19, when former CCHS Associate Principal Reginald Thomas left to take a position as Athens Community Career Academy Director.
“You will see this beautiful new face in our Freshman Academy and throughout the building,” CCHS Principal’s Secretary Latoya Hill said in an Oct. 25 email to the faculty and staff. “Welcome Dr. Angelia Major who will fill our Administrative vacancy as Assistant Principal!”
Major has served in public schools for the past 16 years in several capacities, and holds a Doctorate degree in Teaching & Learning, K-12 (2014), Masters degree in Special Education (2010) and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice (2006).
“As far as educational goes, I taught at a juvenile corrections in New York, and that’s where I started to develop my love for teaching. When I moved to Georgia approximately 16 years ago, I became certified and got my masters in special education,” Major said. “I moved up to be a special education teacher over different special education departments in several schools. I taught every level in a public school from elementary to middle and high school.”

English department teacher Ian Altman is glad to have another administrator in the building.
“She will have big shoes to fill, because Mr. Thomas was a legend here for a long, long time. But she will make her own way and I feel confident in that,” Altman said. “I’m sure Dr. Huff chose wisely.”
As a new member of the CCHS community Major hopes to get a strong start aiding in the administration’s goals.
“One of the things that is in our 90-day plan for (CCHS) goals is to ensure that we not only improve instructionally but also our climate and environment, making sure our school is safe for our students, and making sure we continue to build strong relationships with students,” Major said.
