Clarke Central High School celebrated higher education on Sept. 13 with their annual college night.
“The great thing about college night is that you can talk to all of these college reps who sometimes graduated from that school,” CCHS college advisor Lawrence Harris said.
The event consisted of representatives from local colleges, an ACT/SAT booth and a presentation about colleges, financial aid and applying to universities.
“We’re here to prepare and talk to the students, and give general information,” Jennifer Wooten, assistant director of under graduate admissions for Piedmont College, said.
This year’s college night was not as well attended as in past years. The event used to take place in the library, however, due to overcrowding it was moved in to Mell Auditorium. This year there were around twenty parents and students attending the presentation in Mell Auditorium.
“The hardest part is getting people to come, you can put as much planning as you can into it and throw an amazing event, but if there are no attendees then it’s a waste,” Harris said.
Ultimately, the event’s purpose was to inform students about college opportunities and to answer students’ questions about college.
“You want to ask questions and make sure that you get the information that you need,” Harris said.
