The Clarke Central High School Gladiators girls soccer team was defeated by the Oconee County High School Warriors 1-0 on Feb. 22.
CCHS outshoots OCHS 8-3, but fall 0-1 at Warrior Stadium
Head girls soccer coach Chris Hulse believes recent adjustments in players’ positions led to offensive struggles.
“Honestly, I think (our loss is) because we have a lot of players at new positions. We are still trying to find that rhythm and that chemistry to build with each other,” Hulse said. “It’s definitely a chemistry sport. Even though this one stings, this is a positive experience in terms of the chances we created.”
With 13:41 left in the game, OCHS number 19, Amelia Norman, a junior made a goal from the far right side of the field. OCHS took a 1-0 lead that they would hang onto for the rest of the game.
CCHS team captain McKinley Campbell, a sophomore, believes that her team played strongly against OCHS.
“Obviously we could’ve done better, but overall we did pretty well,” Campbell said. “We all just need to stay positive towards each other and not get mad.”
Hulse thinks that his team needs to work on their composure on the field heading into region play.
“I thought our effort was impeccable. I thought our technique was really good as well as our communication. We want to work on a little bit of our technical understanding and a little bit of our calm about ourselves on the field,” Hulse said. “There were moments that got a little frantic. We got so caught up in the excitement and the energy of it that our tactics slipped a little bit away from us.”
The CCHS girls soccer team will face off against Morgan County High School on Tuesday Feb. 26 at 5:30pm.
