On Oct. 12, the Clarke Central High School varsity football team will play Walnut Grove High School.
The Clarke Central High School varsity football team will face off against Walnut Grove High School on Oct. 12.
The Gladiators will enter the game with a 4-3 record, while the Warriors currently post a 2-5 record.
“I am excited (for the game). We’re excited to get our offense rolling and scoring more points than we have been,” CCHS head varsity football coach David Perno said. “I think we’ve been better on the road than we’ve been at home, which is unusual, but not a bad quality. I’m looking forward to seeing how we respond, not having been on the road for a while.”
Perno says the team has been putting in extra practice in the lead up to the game, with a focus on the offensive line.
“We’re putting in a couple new offensive sets that are going to help us open the ball up a little bit,” Perno said. “And we’re keeping up our defense, (so) hopefully they’ll play with the tenacity they had last week.”
CCHS, ranked third in AAAAA Region 8, is coming off of a win against Loganville last Friday with a score of 8-3. Loganville defeated WGHS, ranked sixth in the region, by a score of 28-21 earlier this season.
“Coming from a win gives us a momentum boost to know the season’s not over and we can still go pretty far in the playoffs,” varsity middle linebacker Quavion Teasley, a CCHS senior, said. “Hopefully, the discipline will carry over to this Friday and we’ll go out and execute like we did last Friday.”
