UberEATS is a new food delivery service in Athens, but will it rise above existing delivery providers?
UberEATS is a food delivery service founded in Aug. 2014. It partners with restaurants from 50 cities around the world, and ordering can be done via website or through an app.
The delivery service was unveiled in Athens on Feb. 16 and delivers from Athens’ favorites, such as Zombie Coffee and Donuts, Taqueria Tsunami, Blind Pig Tavern, Cinnaholic, Your Pie and Pulaski Heights BBQ.
When ordering from the app, the user has to connect or create an Uber account. For those with pre-existing accounts, user information is already loaded. Like Uber, the user can only use credit or debit cards when ordering.
The app is easy to use and the ordering instructions are clear and easy to follow. The only downside is that the ordering fee is $3.99 while for other food delivery services in Athens, such as Cosmic Delivery and Bulldawg Food, charge only $2.99.
A great addition that Cosmic Delivery and Bulldawg Food do not have, is that UberEATS gives the user a timeline: when the order is accepted, when the food is being prepared, when the courier is on the way and when the food is arriving. Each time one of the steps is completed, the user gets a notification from the app.
The delivery is quick and the user knows where the driver is, thanks to live updates on Google Maps. The user also knows the driver’s name, has their picture, what their license plate number is and the type of car the delivery person is driving.
UberEATS’ service and efficiency are comparable to other food delivery services, but existing services in town are a better deal.
