Ashley Lawrence critiques the fourth installment to the Jurassic Park films, Jurassic World, which garnered over $600 million in the box office in the United States.

Steven Spielberg’s sequel Jurassic World, which is coming out on DVD on Oct. 20, proves to be an improvement from the other sequels, but failed to capture the charm of the original.
Jurassic World is a beautiful and suspenseful film enjoyable in itself, but can be described as a whole to be a waste of potential.
Jurassic World is, while undeniably a suspenseful movie, a film that is void of any emotional impact or a compelling enough story to have any replay value. The story was poorly constructed and riddled with disappointingly and overwhelmingly obvious plot holes, and the characters lack the depth for them to be very interesting at all.
Nonetheless, Jurassic World is an incredibly gorgeous movie with amazingly realistic computer-generated imagery that is to be admired in itself, if only for its artistic value. The action and suspense alone is a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Despite this, the story proves difficult to appreciate as much as the visuals.
Aside from the plot holes, some scenes are boringly predictable and the characters seem to be written based on tropes without any attempt to add depth or diversity to the character. Also, the movie seems to recycle scenes from the original Jurassic Park film while altering only minor details.
Jurassic World does cater to its fans by dropping in several references to Jurassic Park every now and again. It adds a nice, shiny layer of nostalgia to the top of the rocky surface of shoddy character writing, but is assisted in polishing up the rough edges with unrelentless action to keep the viewer pulled in without focusing too hard on the characters themselves.
All in all, Jurassic World is a fun but not terribly impressive movie that is very well suited for if one wanted to enjoy an intense film, but it is not for those who would like to see something memorable that can be enjoyed time and time again.
