The completion date for 2014-15 International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme Personal Projects is near.
The International Baccalaureate Personal Project is an opportunity for those who participated in the IB Middle Years Programme (grades 6-10) to showcase what they learned in their academic classes, as well as the core ideas of the International School of Paris.
Clarke Central High School sophomores, in their final year of the MYP, are encouraged to choose a topic of personal interest in order to further explore the area with their project. Sophomore Catherine Argabright is incorporating foreign language in her project for this reason.
“I chose to do a Spanish (language) blog because I wanted it to be something that could benefit the student body but also be something that I could reference in a couple of years to see what life at Central was like,” Argabright said.
According to foreign language department teacher and IB Coordinator Larissa D. Jean, all 10th graders are currently working on their personal projects. Jean is also in charge of posting news about how teachers are working with students.
“Every month, I create a newsletter called ‘The Global Gladiator’ that highlights what teachers are doing in the building to promote global awareness,” Jean said.
Each student is paired with a teacher to make sure that the students are on track and receiving the necessary support. English department teacher Brian Ash has a GLAD Time session dedicated to helping students with their project during the school day.
Personal projects were started in Aug., 2014 and are due Thurs., Mar. 19. According to Jean, students should be currently working on the research paper component of the project.
“The IB Committee and myself are looking forward to the final products,” Jean said.
