An inside look into Lifetime Sports, a physical education elective exclusively for seniors, with José Mondragon.
Brittney Butler: What is your favorite thing about Lifetime Sports?
José Mondragon: It is a place where you can play and chill. In other classes you go and do work, but in here, you come here, and you can relax and play, and it’s all good. I just come into Lifetime and if I’m in a good mood, if I’m energized and cool, I play soccer or basketball sometimes. Other times I have a lot of homework or a project that I need to do, I take this time to work on it, and it’s a relaxing time sometimes.
BB: What did you do in class today?
JM: I was playing tennis soccer ball and I was trying to hit it with my head and I ended up hitting it with my eye. Tennis soccer is when you play in the tennis court with a soccer ball and you just play it like tennis, back and forth, with a soccer ball.
BB: What sports have you learned?
JM: I learned how to play basketball in Lifetime. Well, I had never played basketball out of school or in school until this year when Tyler Sartain invited me to play one day on his team, and I did. They told me not to carry the ball or to dribble with hand and switch it to the other hand if I have moved or something like that.
BB: Who is the most active in the class?
JM: Tyler Sartain is always playing. There’s not a day when he’s not playing basketball. He’s always playing basketball. Some other people might play a lot, but the other people just chill and watch people, but Tyler is the one who is playing all the time.
