At a Clarke County School District-sponsored luncheon on Oct. 17, Clarke Central High School CAPS Paraprofessional William “Montu” Miller and English department co-chair Erin Cawthon were recognized as Paraprofessional of the Year and Teacher of the Year for Clarke Central High School.
“I’m completely honored, it’s a huge privilege. There are so many capable, highly-qualified people on the ballot and the fact that I was chosen to represent the school is truly a shock,” Cawthon said.
Additionally, Miller was named Paraprofessional of the Year for CCSD for his work with CAPS students.
“Sometimes it feels like we go unnoticed or unappreciated in the school but it feels really great to be recognized,” Miller said. “I grew up with my brother being special needs, so working with these kids is no different, they just might learn differently and I’m there to help.”
Both of these CCHS employees were chosen based off of their contributions to the school as well as their work ethic.
“Anything you ask (Cawthon) to do, it’s always ‘What can I do to help?” or ‘What do we need to do to make this better?’” Principal Dr. Robbie P. Hooker said. “A lot of the work the (Miller) does is done under the radar. (Miller) really cares about our kids.”
