A slideshow displays various events that occurred within the week of April 7 to April 13. The first North American total solar eclipse since 2017 happened on April 8. An eclipse happens when the moon blocks out the sun’s light from reaching Earth. “To most of the Earth, it only partially blocks out the sun, however, in certain locations the moon fully covers the sun. The eclipse’s path of totality stretched from Mazatlán, Mexico to Newfoundland, Canada, including 15 states,” Webmaster Luke Shannon writes. Graphic by Luke Shannon
