Groups of concerned citizens held rallies in Athens on March 6, 2024, after former UGA student Laken Riley was murdered. “The Make Athens Safe Again Rally was organized by Athens citizen Laurie Camp and took place outside City Hall. The rally aimed to protest Athens being a ‘sanctuary city.’ Another rally, organized by UGA Students for Socialism and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, took place at College Avenue to fight sexist violence and racism,” Webmaster Luke Shannon writes. Luke Shannon is a sophomore at Clarke Central High School and the Webmaster for the ODYSSEY Media Group.
