CBS’ new show CSI: Cyber fell short of viewers’ expectations. The CSI spinoff premiered Mar. 4 and although it begs to be watched, the show is a huge disappointment.
One would think that the technology based show would be a fresh take on an old concept, but it fails to do anything truly original. Every technical aspect of the show that should make it unique is already being done in almost every other police procedural series.
The show features awkward camera work and flashy graphics that are dizzying at best. It is also difficult to stay interested during the whole hour that its playing. The plots are the same overused, cliche things that have been being used for the last 10 years with minor changes to fit the cybercrime theme.
Although some of the actors are well known and awarded, in this show the cast falls flat. The acting seems forced and does little to help the cause of the already tiresome show.
If at nothing else, the show does do a good job with addressing current issues in today’s society with the growing reliance on technology and the internet. One of the last episodes featured a possible problem with new taxi services such as Lyft and Uber.
CBS has been doing exceptionally well this last season with its new police procedural dramas such as Scorpion and Battle Creek, and there are already a couple of good CSI spinoffs. It’s easy to see that CSI:Cyber should have just been left on the drawing board.
