On Sept. 13, Swedish DJ-producer Avicii released his debut studio album, True.
Just this month, Avicii releases his first highly anticipated studio album titled True, which is sometimes stylized as TRUE. This record continues the chain of success that he started three years ago. His most notable achievement was his biggest single, “Levels”, which quickly reached the top of the charts in several countries around the world in 2011.
Now, two years after his big hit, Avicii continues his career with this new album, which contains 12 songs, including two of his most popular singles “Wake Me Up” and “You Make Me”, which both became very popular within the first weeks of their releases. These tracks are an assortment of electronic dance music with an unusual mix of folk, known as folktronica.
Normally folk and techno would not mix well together, but Avicii seems to make it sound right. Overall, the music is well synched and feels energetic. Great examples are “Liar Liar” and “Addicted To You”, both of which have a vivid beat. These songs are sure to quickly become popular and are making Avicii’s new album a success.
However, without the words to accompany these dynamic tunes, True would not be the hit it is today. Each track features guest singers like Sterling Fox and Aloe Blacc, who effectively set the mood with their lyrics about love.
Some exceptions, however, would be “Canyons” and “Heart Upon My Sleeve”, which are purely instrumental. Listening to a song without lyrics does give a break from the constant talk about love and allows one to enjoy the composition more. One thing that is also noticeable about these two tracks is that they feel calmer than the rest of the songs found in this album. However, they are not as stimulating as the rest of the album, since there are no lyrics to back them up.
Music and lyrics united, these 12 songs are well synched and catchy. They bring adrenaline to those who are listening and will make one want to dance right to the beat. The words also bring out emotions that just seem to fit the track. To back this up, many critics enjoyed and appreciated True. It is obvious why Avicii’s album True was highly anticipated, and there is no question that True is memorable and worth listening to.
