The Georgia Scholastic Press Association’s Awards Banquet held April 25 at the Classic Center in Athens, Ga. was rewarding for members of Clarke Central’s Iliad Literary-Art Magazine, Odyssey Online and Odyssey Newsmagazine.
“It was a really fun day for the entire Odyssey staff and I was so honored to win the Georgia Junior Champion Journalist runner-up,” 2012-13 webmaster Austin DeFoor said.
The 2012-13 Odyssey was recognized as GSPA’s All Georgia Newsmagazine (highest honors); the publication was recognized as All Georgia for the fifth time in six years (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013). The Odyssey received the General Excellence award for the eighth consecutive year, as well as a Superior rating. The Iliad Literary-Art Magazine for 2011-12 received the General Excellence award and a Superior rating. The Odyssey Online website received the 2012-2013 General Excellence News Website award and was rated All Georgia (highest honors).
Also of note, Odyssey Editor-in-Chief Chloe Hargrave was named 3rd place runner up in Georgia Champion Journalist competition. Chloe follows Champion Journalist Runners Up Julia K. Wilson (2005), Rachel Bowers (2007), Lisa Glaser (2008), Caroline Foster (2009), Isabel Atkinson (2010), Lauren Pruitt (2011) and Emma Kissane (2012). Odyssey Print Managing Editor Jenny Alpaugh was named Junior Champion Journalist for Georgia and Austin Defoor placed second.
“After a decade of the Odyssey and 12 years of the Iliad, our Leadership Team continues to challenge our staff members to grow, expand and evolve. Under the leadership of Hannah Dunn-Grandpre and her team on the Iliad and Chloe Hargrave, Dunn-Grandpre and Jenny Alpaugh on the Odyssey, we worked collaboratively to renew our creative process,” adviser David Ragsdale said.
