The Women’s March on Washington took place on Jan. 21, the day after the presidential inauguration and drew people from all across the country to rally and march in Washington D.C.

On Jan. 9, Clarke Central High School’s soccer teams began conditioning and try-outs which were held at both Billy Henderson Stadium and in the weight room.

English department teacher David Ragsdale’s British Literature class had a poetry slam on Jan. 4 where students were able to share original poetry.

The Clarke Central High School and Cedar Shoals High School girl’s and boy’s varsity basketball teams faced off at CSHS on Dec. 10. The CCHS boy’s team lost to CSHS 73-70 while the girl’s team won 59-57.

For the first time since 2013, the Clarke Central High School varsity football team competed in the Georgia High School Association 5A Sweet 16 State Playoffs. The Clarke Central Gladiators traveled to Henry County to face the Stockbridge High School Tigers on Nov. 18. The Gladiators fell to the Tigers 37-13.

On Oct. 28, the Clarke Central High School varsity football team defeated Walnut Grove High School 33-21. This secures the Gladiators’ placement as the No.3 seed in the Region AAAAA GHSA State Football Championship.

All seniors participating in fall sports, band and JROTC were recognized on the field before the Clarke Central High School varsity football game against Flowery Branch High School.

On Sept. 30, CCHS went up against Buford High School and fell 44-13 to the Wolves. Before the game, the Clarke Middle School band and orchestra, the Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School band and the CCHS orchestra performed the “Star Spangled Banner” and at half-time, both teams’ marching bands took to the field.

On Feb. 17, Athens residents gathered in the Cedar Shoals High School auditorium to discuss the recent alleged sexual assault case.

Cedar Shoals High School’s Tech Team taught Clarke Central High School students about virtual reality software and Google Cardboard.

On Jan. 23, cross-town rivalries Clarke Central High School and Cedar Shoals High School varsity basketball teams face off. The CCHS varsity girls took a 73-39 win followed by the CCHS varsity boys loss 54-73.

On Jan. 18, Athens community members marched through the streets of downtown Athens to push for a discrimination free community.

>On Jan. 16, the Clarke Central High school’s girls and boys varsity basketball teams won both games against Oconee County High School. The girls won 72-27 and the boys won 63-54.

On Jan. 5, students at Clarke Central High School came back from break to an essentially new school as the school’s on-going renovation enters a new phase.

On December 11, the Clarke Central High School basketball teams faced their cross-town rival Cedar Shoals . The varsity girls took away a 64-30 win however the varsity boys lost 44-73.

On Fri., Nov. 6, Clarke Central High School participated in their first swim meet of the season at the Ramsey Student Center”

On Fri., Nov. 6, CCHS celebrated senior night where seniors who participated in fall sports were recognized on the field. Clarke central was then defeated by Loganville 42-13.

The annual Wild Rumpus parade took place in Downtown Athens on Sat., Oct. 31.

On Oct. 25, Athens held its 6th annual AthHalf, a half marathon.
