On March 24, a March for Our Lives rally, organized by UGA’s Keep the G Gun-Free, Moms Demand Action and Athens-Anti Discrimination Movement, was held in Athens along side nation-wide protests for gun control in the United States.

On Feb. 15, students from Clarke Central High School attended the annual Hunter-Holmes Lecture at the University of Georgia chapel. Before the lecture, students had the opportunity to learn more about Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes and their contributions to the integration of UGA.

The Clarke Central High School and Cedar Shoals High School girl’s and boy’s varsity basketball teams faced off at CSHS on Dec. 10. The CCHS boy’s team lost to CSHS 73-70 while the girl’s team won 59-57.

For the first time since 2013, the Clarke Central High School varsity football team competed in the Georgia High School Association 5A Sweet 16 State Playoffs. The Clarke Central Gladiators traveled to Henry County to face the Stockbridge High School Tigers on Nov. 18. The Gladiators fell to the Tigers 37-13.

On Oct. 28, the Clarke Central High School varsity football team defeated Walnut Grove High School 33-21. This secures the Gladiators’ placement as the No.3 seed in the Region AAAAA GHSA State Football Championship.

On Sept. 30, CCHS went up against Buford High School and fell 44-13 to the Wolves. Before the game, the Clarke Middle School band and orchestra, the Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School band and the CCHS orchestra performed the “Star Spangled Banner” and at half-time, both teams’ marching bands took to the field.

Clarke Central High School defeated Cedar Shoals High School 38-12 on Sept. 23 in the 50th annual Classic City Championship.

ODYSSEY Online complied a package of several galleries on the 2015 homecoming pep rally, homecoming court, homecoming game and homecoming dance by Sophie Fernandes, Ella Sams and Julie Alpaugh.

On Sept. 13, Pride Week wound down with a family-friendly Pride Festival held on Washington Street in Downtown Athens. The festival featured music, food and variety of vendors to express Athens’ support of the LGBTQ community.
