Pocket Points is an app that allows users to earn points in school that can be spent on coupons that are emailed to the user. Students who want to become less attached to their phones may benefit, but there are several downsides to the app. Photo by Kesato.

The app Pocket Points is available for free on the app store that allows participants to earn points for not being on their phones at school. Students can then spend their points on coupons for a variety of local and online businesses.
In almost every class at Clarke Central High School, there are students on their phone. It’s almost impossible not to check whenever class gets boring, but what if you could be rewarded for using phones in class?
Pocket Points is a app that allows students to earn prizes while at school. They only have to do one thing: turn off their phones. While the app is open and the phone is off, every fifteen minutes a point is earned. Users can then browse a variety of businesses both online and local, and spend their points to get rewards.
This app sounds too good to be true … and it kinda is.
Most of the prizes are actually only coupons, so you still have to spend money, and some of them are offers already available on the stores website.
However, there are some good deals on the app, and for those trying to stay off their phone, that may be the encouragement they need.
So, while the app is not perfect, it is still a great idea with a lot of potential for growth.
