Releasing episodes weekly on Amazon Prime from July 14 to Aug. 18, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is back with a Season 2 and the complicated love triangle viewers may have missed.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty,” inspired by the original books by Jenny Han, is back for a second season on Amazon Prime. Released weekly from July 14 to Aug. 18, the continuation of the series brings back the drama-filled love triangle trope that viewers will be eager to watch.
The show follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and her family who, every summer, stay in Cousins Beach with family friends Susannah Fisher (Rachel Blanchard) and her sons, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney).
Throughout Season 1, Belly is romantically involved with both Conrad and Jeremiah, ultimately expressing her love for Conrad at the end of the season. Additionally, Susannah reveals her fatal cancer which she has been hiding from the families. The uncertainty at the end of season one sets the scene for season two.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2 trailer, released on June 29, is shown. Eight episodes of the series were released weekly on Amazon Prime from July 14 to Aug. 18, leaving viewers eager for more of Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). “From romance to characters viewers will grow to love or hate, TSITP is the perfect mindless binge,” Variety Editor Janie Ripps wrote. Season 2 picks up a year later. Susannah is dead and Belly is grieving at home in Pennsylvania. The Cousins Beach House is at risk of being sold, so Belly and her brother Steven (Sean Kaufman) return to the house to help Conrad and Jeremiah save the last piece of Susannah they have left.
With eight episodes, each about 45 minutes long, Season 2 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” season two will sweep viewers up in the complicated plot as both brothers are still in love with Belly.
However, the show doesn’t have the same magic that viewers may have experienced in Season 1. The innocence of Belly’s crushes is gone, and she ends up breaking more hearts than it feels like benefits anyone.
Belly continues to lead both brothers on for almost the whole season, creating an unrealistic situation as they both keep coming back to her despite her mistreatment.
Regardless, the noticeable improvement in performances from actors compared to Season 1 and the extremely fitting soundtrack, featuring songs from Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey, elevates the plot.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is the perfect watch for those looking for a classic drama-filled love triangle. Viewers may even find themselves rooting for either “Team Conrad” or “Team Jeremiah” by the last episode.
