Clarke Central High School students pose for a photo at the 2023 prom, which was themed “A Night in the Gardens”, at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia on April 29. CCHS fine arts department teacher Heather Garland chaperoned the event and felt nostalgic about her high school prom, which took place in Beaufort, South Carolina. “I just remember my friend did my hair for me and I got my nails done, and I was not a person that did my nails or did my hair — I was a little bit of a punk,” Garland said. “I had a black velvet dress, and so I definitely was not as colorful and glamorous as the rest of my people in high school with me but (prom) was really nice.” Photo by Ciyana Ramos, story by Peter Atchley
