While it came a little late for the season it was meant to be celebrating, the new “Cookie Run: Kingdom” Halloween Masquerade update is a must-play because of the added costume system and new playable character.
“Cookie Run: Kingdom,” a fantasy adventure game with an RPG battle system published by Devsisters on the Apple and Google Play stores, released its newest update, Halloween Masquerade, on Oct. 23.
This update added a costume gacha, a Halloween-themed side story and a new playable cookie, Pumpkin Pie Cookie, along with matching decorations to decorate the player’s kingdom.
The costume gacha, a much-desired addition to the game, features not only Halloween costumes but also alternative color palettes and seasonal outfits.
With 47 costumes to unlock, it is frustratingly hard to get the Rainbow Cubes, a form of in-game currency, needed for pulls. The only way to get them is through the new side story or by interacting with other players’ kingdoms, both of which yield minimal results.

Pumpkin Pie Cookie, a middle-aligned magic cookie, not only fits in with the rest of the game’s creatively designed cookie creations but also makes a great addition to the small number of summoners players can choose from.
Her special ability, “Pompon, Help!”, allows her to summon her doll Pompon, who turns into Giant Pompon and inflicts melee area damage. This summon, along with Pumpkin Pie Cookie’s regular attacks, can deal massive amounts of damage within a relatively short amount of time, making her a great addition to any team.
While the release date for this new update is before Halloween, because of the wide scope given to players to go through the Halloween side story and obtain the limited-time Halloween costumes, it would have been better to release it earlier in October.
It is admirable that Devsisters wanted to give players a long time to unlock as much as they could before it went away, but it is also confusing to open the app and see Halloween decorations everywhere several weeks into November.
Overall, despite some misjudgments on the release time and the difficulty for players to get Rainbow Cubes for costumes, the Halloween Masquerade update is a great addition and a must-play for all fans of the game.
