The home screen of the Weather Widget – Colorful website is displayed. It includes a picture with examples of how different widget setups they offer could look. Photo fair use of Touchberry
Developed by Touchberry, the app Weather Widget – Colorful was released on March 13 and is available to all iPhone and iPod Touch users with IOS 14 or higher, and Mac users with iOS 11.0 or higher. The app allows users to design a widget for their home screen that displays either daily or weekly weather predictions.
The app is free, however, it does have a paid premium option that allows the use of more layouts for widgets, more icon options, and more up-to-date weather.
When users open the app, they will be given three size options for the widget they would like to create. For each size, there are two layouts for the widget that are available with the free option. Once a user selects a size and layout, they can customize the color and icon style for their widget. There are also only two options for each of these. While some may find these limited options cute, they may not be for everyone.
One thing that sets this widget app apart from other weather widgets is that the icons to represent the weather are visually appealing while staying easy to understand at a glance.
The small widget shows the current temperature, weather for the day, and the highs and lows. The medium one displays the same information, as well as 10 hours of the hourly weather for the day, beginning an hour before the current time. Apple’s weather widget only shows six hours at a time, so this is more information displayed at once, without seeming too crowded.
The large widget option displays the same information as the medium, as well as a seven-day forecast with the highs and lows, and an icon for the type of weather predicted each day.
Overall, the app is very easy to navigate, with attractive designs for one’s home screen. This is an easy way to quickly view the weather without sacrificing the aesthetic of your home screen.
