Started by the Clarke Central High School Media Specialists Angie Pendley and MaryAnn Sullivan, CCHS will be hosting its first Thank-O-Rama from Nov. 6 to Nov. 22. This project allows students to go to the media center and write thank you notes to CCHS staff members who have impacted them.
“I think that most students can probably pinpoint one person (at CCHS) that has helped them stay through a class or you know just even encouraging them to be at school or just recognizing students. And you would think that a student would be thankful for that,” Sullivan said.
According to CCHS sophomore Anna Tenner, Thank-O-Rama is proper payment for the hard work that teachers put in for students.
“I think (students) don’t have enough appreciation for our teachers now because they work a lot harder than what we see, because they’re working after hours, grading our stuff, making plans, all that stuff. And we only really think about them in the classroom, so I think thanking them is very important,” Tenner said.
Last year the CCHS Media Center faculty hosted a Valentine’s Day celebration similar to Thank-O-Rama, in which teachers wrote on hearts what they loved about CCHS. Sullivan and Pendley hope to continue projects like these in the future.
“(I) think it’d be good to do (a similar project) in the spring also. Maybe not exactly the Valentine’s Day (celebration) because we did that last year, even though that was very successful. Also, (this Thank-O-Rama) will be (successful) too, I’m sure,” Sullivan said.
Thank-O-Rama aims to make sure that all of the CCHS staff feels appreciated.
“We’re going to try to make sure that every staff member gets some type of shoutout. So I have a big list of everybody’s name, and we’re just kind of marking (the names) off,” Sullivan said. “We don’t tell people often how important they are.”
