Clarke Central High School JROTC Raiders compete during the Raider Competition at Jackson County High School on Sept 21. CCHS attended the first Raider competition of the 2019-20 school year on Sept. 7 and are scheduled to compete at Cedar Shoals High School on Sept. 28. “We’re headed to Cedar Shoals this weekend, and then after that we have Grayson (and then) we have Elbert county and should have state at the end of October,” First Sergeant Antoine Clarke said. Clarke Central High School JROTC Raiders are set to compete against local high schools at Cedar Shoals High School on Sept. 28.
Clarke Central High School JROTC Raiders are scheduled to participate in the local JROTC Raider competition at Cedar Shoals High School on Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“We are hot and heavy in our JROTC Raider Competition schedule. They are every (Saturday) at local schools,” Lieutenant Colonel McMickle said.
During these competitions, students who participate in Raiders compete against select schools across the state of Georgia. The competing teams will participate in a total of five tasks ranging from team runs to obstacle courses.
“Each competition, (judges) publish a (Letter of Instruction). (In the LOI), they’re gonna tell you what those events are going to consist of. So, what (CCHS Raiders) try to do in practice is try to replicate those events here at Clarke Central,” First Sergeant. Antoine Clarke said.
According to Clarke, CCHS placed second at the last competition at Jackson County High School on Sept. 21, and they are striving to place first during their next competition, by practicing tasks similar to an actual competition.
“So when our raiders get to (CSHS) they kind of are already used to what’s in store for them,” Clarke said. “(CSHS) is going to have a 2.2 mile run, so we’re going to run further than that in practice because, at the actual competition, they’re going to do those five events back to back.”
CCHS freshman and JROTC Guidon Olivia Warren believes that the upcoming Raider competition is one of their biggest competitions.
“It’s my first year doing Raiders. I hear there’s going to be hard parts, but as long as we work together as a team we should be good,” Warren said.
