The Clarke Central High School varsity and JV volleyball team are hosting a powderpuff tournament as a fundraiser for the team on Sept. 17.
The Clarke Central High School varsity and JV volleyball teams will host a powderpuff volleyball tournament on Sept. 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to raise money for the volleyball program. CCHS male students will play volleyball on teams coached by the varsity and JV volleyball players.
Head varsity volleyball coach Stacey Scott believes that the fundraiser will be a unique and enjoyable experience for the students at CCHS, as well as the volleyball players.
“None of the girls, me included, really enjoy fundraising. I figured this will be a fun way that the ladies can share their sport, their passions, desires and enthusiasm to their school and to their fans,” Scott said.
CCHS sophomore and JV volleyball player Lily Meyers will be coaching her own powderpuff team. According to Meyers, there is an incentive for the winning team of the powderpuff tournament.
“The girls that play volleyball will coach teams with boys, (and the teams will consist) of about six to eight players. It’s like a tournament where the boys play each other, and then the winner of the tournament plays the varsity girls volleyball team,” Meyers said.

The volleyball games will be relatively quick to make sure all teams get to play.
“The ladies are going to pair up and coach a boys team. We’ll play short games to 15 (points), best out of three,” Scott said.
It is $1 to participate and $2 to attend the event.
“(The proceeds) are going towards volleyball equipment. It’s time for us to revitalize our equipment and things are just expensive,” Scott said.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate and attend the event.
“I think (students) should attend because they’ll learn something, number one, and number two, it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Scott said.
