Clarke Central High School junior and ODYSSEY Media Group Business manager Emma Crane poses with her older brother, CCHS 2015 graduate Ethan Crane.
Business Manager Emma Crane reflects on important moments spent with her older brother, and 2015 Clarke Central High School graduate Ethan Crane.
Ethan,
I’ve always loved you, and I know I always will.
I know we fight a lot. Sometimes the fights have purpose, and other times they are about the most mundane things.
When we were younger, we would play games with one another and stay up late in the living room watching “The Office” or “Parks and Recreation”. We would jump over the creaky floorboard in the hallway so we wouldn’t wake mom and dad.
When I got scared, I would come into your room at night, and (most of the time) you would begrudgingly let me steal half of your bed. When it was storming outside, I would let you do the same to me.
We’ve always taken turns being the ‘strong sibling’, which is a dynamic I love because we both get to be there for one another when we need to be.
A lot of my friends have siblings that are closer in age to them, and a lot of my friends are the oldest, but I am grateful that I get to have someone as strong as you to be a role model for me in life.
I get to follow in your footsteps, but also create a new legacy to leave behind for our family.
There are so many things I get to do with you that I take for granted, and I’m sorry that I haven’t said any of this to you before:
We get to speak to each other in different languages.
We get to hug each other and smile together.
We get to laugh together.
We get to cry together.
We get to scream at each other and ignore each other.
We get to make mom and dad mad at us.
We get to make them smile.
I’ve known you for 6,215 days, and I wouldn’t trade a single one for the world.
Tupananchiskama, munayki!
