Dawe and other soccer players decided to dress nicely today to bring attention to their game against Walnut Grove High School. “We dressed up for the game, so that when people asked us we’d tell them why and tell them to go,” Dawe said. Clarke Central High School junior and varsity soccer player Charles Dawe reflects on his team’s record and continued improvements.
Alexander Robinson: Can you just tell me about how this season has gone so far?
Charles Dawe: So far, the season has been very well. We’re undefeated, 13 – 0.
AR: What do you attribute most of that success towards?
CD: I would say our coach. He brings us together as a team. The practices are really hard, but we work well together as a team.
AR: What do you think has changed from last year? What has enabled you all to go further?
CD: There were juniors last year, but we lost a lot of people. The coaching just sort of cut a lot of people that were holding us back. During practice we’d get into arguments with different people, so they removed them from the team.
AR: How are practices specifically more difficult this year compared to last year?
CD: There’s a lot more fitness, and (we do) a lot harder drills.
AR: What do y’all hope to accomplish moving forward towards the end of the season?
CD: We hope to win the rest of our games and we hope to advance to the state playoffs.
AR: Do y’all think you’ll be able to replicate this success next year?
CD: I think so. I think we’ll definitely be able to replicate this next year. A bunch of our younger players are getting older, so I think we’ll be able to.
AR: Do you have any personal goals you’d like to accomplish by the end of the season?
CD: (As for) my personal goals, I’d like to have ten goals and ten assists before the end of the season.
