Broadcast staffer Kelly Fulford talks to Clarke Central High School running back coach about preperations for the 2017/2018 football season.
Broadcast staffer Kelly Fulford: When will conditioning or preparations for football begin?
Clarke Central High School varsity running back coach Aaron Cavin: The middle school players and ninth graders have been lifting weight after school four days a week for the past few weeks, and they will continue to do that until spring practice. On a side note, we have eight to ten different seniors coming in after school to work specifically with our younger players in the weight room, and we are excited to see them in leadership roles.
KF: What are the specific exercises the players have been doing or the exercises you plan on incorporating moving forward?
AC: We are focusing on teaching proper technique of power cleans, squats, and bench press.
KF: How do these exercises prepare them for the season?
AC: These exercises will strengthen their lower body and core areas in order to make the players more explosive.
KF: When will tryouts begin?
AC: The way tryouts work for football is different than some other sports. The team will not turn away anyone coming out for football unless there are academic, medical or other non-sport related issues that could be detrimental to the player/team. We like as many players as possible to participate. We will have spring practice in late April/early May.
KF: From what you know of the players that are planning on trying out what can we expect for the upcoming season?
AC: This upcoming season will be tremendous. We have some solid kids who are excited about playing and showing the community what they can do.
