Snow was happy with the unusually warm weather for a February practice. “It’s fantastic weather right now. Usually that’s one of the drawbacks in February, that is it’s cold and windy, but spring came early,” Snow said. Photo by Ana Aldridge.

The Clarke Central High School girls golf team, which began its season on Feb. 13, lacks players.
The Clarke Central High School girls golf team held its first practice of the season at the University of Georgia golf course on Feb. 13. Though four players have signed up for the girls team, none were in attendance.
“I guess right now we’re just trying to figure out who’s coming out. We always seem to have a lot of people interested, but then when it really gets to it, our numbers aren’t the best. So hopefully we get some commitment from the girls,” Chase Street Elementary School teacher and head girls golf coach Matthew Snow said.
Snow hopes that more girls will sign up to play golf this season, and has been working to recruit students he met in his job at Chase Street.
“I think right now, the last count, I think we had four (girls golf players). Ideally, I think it’d be great if we got to like eight. Eight would be nice,” Snow said. “So, yeah, we’re kinda trying to get people interested in it and I’ve been talking to a lot of freshman who went to Chase Street to see if they would want to come out.”
Snow looks for commitment, rather than experience in his players.
“We want kids to come out and have fun and learn how to participate in golf and just understand that it’s a fun game and just takes a lot of practice and perseverance to become, you know, decent– to hit a golf ball,” Snow said.
