Clarke Central High School girls soccer tryouts started on Jan. 9 and will end on Jan. 20. JV girls soccer coach Scott Moore is excited for tryouts and hopes to enter the season with a strong team.
Clarke Central High School girls soccer tryouts began on Jan. 9. During the first week the girls will be conditioning and the following week, they will be doing skill work.
“We did kind of give an option to the girls if they come in in better shape than they did last year as far as their fitness level that we might be able to make the first week maybe a little more fun than just doing conditioning the entire time,” JV girls soccer coach Scott Moore said. “But that depends on them so we’ll see how that goes.”
Freshman Caroline Sartor says she looks forward to working with the coaches during the two weeks of tryouts.
“I like both of them and I think they’re both great coaches,” Sartor said. “I am aiming for varsity because I want to get better and play with better players.”
According to Moore, the girls soccer team lost a few former players but the majority of players from last year will be returning.
“A lot of our depth will be back and we have some freshmen coming up that we’re excited about as well,” Moore said. “I think we have a good cast of girls coming out to try out that we know of and hopefully we’ll get some surprises as well.”
Moore hopes that they are able to build a strong team and looks forward to the fight for a playoff spot.
“We also do a lot of team building activities exercises within tryouts. We make it competitive. We want the girls to bond and get used to working with each other, so while we are picking teams and that is the ultimate goal of tryouts (is that) we still want to foster that team spirit and build better relationships with the players,” Moore said. “So we’re very excited to get going and compete in our region.”
