Sophomore and JV soccer player Ashley Hernandez practices on the soccer field on Feb. 16. Hernandez played JV soccer for Clarke Central High School last year as well. “One thing I’ve learned as a coach is to never try to have a set number or ‘this is going what’s going to happen.’ We certainly have the potential to do some pretty exciting things,” Clarke Central High School girls head soccer coach Chris Hulse said.

Clarke Central High School JV girls soccer team will be playing against a new school, Discovery High School, on Feb. 17. Despite the fact of having no previous experience against the team, the CCHS JV girls soccer team expects to do well.
Discovery High School is Clarke Central High School’s newest challenge. CCHS JV girls soccer team will play a Discovery High School on Feb. 17 at CCHS at 7:30 p.m. This will be the third team JV plays against this year.
“We need to prepare for our opponents, but it should be about 15 to 20 percent them,” CCHS girls head soccer coach Chris Hulse said. “It’s 80 percent us, and ultimately, we have to have execute.”
The team has identified their weakness from the last game, communication, and has worked on improving upon it.
“Our team needs to work on communicating. The defense needs to communicate more,” freshmen and JV soccer player Kate Jones said. “There’s a lot of pressure on the defense.”
CCHS JV girls soccer team believes the team will not be as tough of a challenge, unaware of the fact their opponent has been preparing from the start of January as well.
“It’s a school that’s new so we might win because they probably haven’t practiced a lot,” Jones said.
The team expects to do well since they’ve been practicing to improve their weakness.
“I think we’ll do pretty good because we’ve been practicing on things we need to work on, like calling when you’re open for passes and attacking in the last five minutes,” Jones said. “Our passes are pretty good.”
The team played their last game, two days ago, on Feb. 15 and has been working hard everyday at practice.
“Most of the players are really really good so they have been working hard,” freshmen and JV soccer player Andrea Aramburo said. “Everyone’s been working hard, trying their best and everything. It’s really good.”
