Dr. Ashlee Wegmann was named the Special Education team leader on Sept. 17. Wegmann, the girls’ volleyball coach and a 1994 graduate of Clarke Central High School, has taught at CCHS for 14 years.
Previously, Marie Yuran held the Special Education team leader position for four years, but when former associate principal Mary Thielman resigned in August to pursue a new position in Cobb County, Yuran applied for and was awarded the position. CCHS principal Dr. Robbie Hooker named Wegmann interim team leader and made the move official after an interview process.
“She knows the Special Education department so well, and she has worked with these people so closely, to me it is a natural step she takes,” principal’s secretary Cheryl Lee said.
Lee feels losing Wegmann’s presence in the classroom will be a loss to CCHS, but is confident in the veteran teacher’s abilities to excel in her new position.
“(Wegmann) is so hard-working, driven, and outgoing. Her time is so invested in the kids, too,” Lee said.
