Tribute runs to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing are being organized across the country.
Runners around the United States are gathering for organized tribute runs and moments of silence, in honor of the victims of the bombing that occurred at the Boston Marathon on April 15.
To honor the victims as well as deal with their own mixed emotions, runners are banding together to do what they love most – putting on their shoes and running.
Thousands of miles from the site of the bombing, Athens will be hosting its very own tribute run with the Athens Road Runners,a supportive community of runners of all ages and abilities.
The run will begin at 6:30 p.m. on April 22 from the Bottleworks on Prince Ave. All runners are welcome to participate, regardless of their running ability.
Social media sites have also been used as vessels for runners to show their support. Since the bombings that left two dead and many others injured, the Twitter hashtags “runforboston” and “bostonstrong” have turned into a virtual gathering spot for a stable, solemn stream of social media users anxious to show support for those hurt in the bombings.
Along with Twitter, many are also using Facebook to create and invite fellow runners to more local tribute events. The Run for Boston (#bostonStrongATH) Facebook page, hosted by David Laggis and Julie Thompson has already gathered 100 people for the tribute run.
