Unlike many one-hit-wonders, Imagine Dragons is a band that protracted beyond its breakthrough anthem “It’s Time” and proceeded to produce an album with an equally zealous intent.
Night Visions, released on September 4, 2012, is an impressive debut album that has justly shined a light on the Las Vegas rock band.
After four years of playing small venues and pitching singles for airplay, Imagine Dragons finally captured the music industry’s attention with the ballad “It’s Time,” originally released on an EP. The subsequent album, filled with songs of raw emotion, contributes to the band’s rising reputation of unvarnished affectional sound.
The entirety of Night Visions’ original eleven tracks has a bass-driven undertone that ensures none go unnoticed. However, diversity between the songs is apparent. While On Top of the World and Underdog carry a more upbeat tone, songs like Radioactive and Bleeding Out bear heavier emotional weight.
Night Visions’ ethos seems to ruminate an omnipresent sense of struggle, portrayed in a way that is both empowering and uplifting. With such a strong first offering, Imagine Dragons makes it easy to envision even better things to come.
